 OPHTHALMOLOGY

 

INTRODUCTION OF THE DEPARTMENT

Ophthalmology Department is one of the oldest Departments of the hospital. Presently it is functioning efficiently with latest equipments and full teaching staff; consisting of 1 Professor and Head, Dr. Mariam M.Mansuri (M. S. Ophthalmology), 2 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors and 4 Tutors. Every year 4 students are given registration for the degree of M. S. Ophthalmology and 2 students for Diploma in Ophthalmology. At present there are 3 senior residents, 4 third year residents, 6 second year residents and 6 first year residents making total 19 residents. All the M.B.B.S. , M. S. (Ophthalmology) and Diploma (Ophthalmology) degrees are recognized by Medical Council of India.

There are 2 units A and B running OPD (No.12) and O. T. (Ward E 1X2) alternately.

A unit is run by 1 Professor, 1 Associate Professor, 1 Assistant Professor and 2 Tutors with OPD days on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. B unit is run by 1 Associate Professor, 2 Assistant Professors and 1 tutor with OPD days on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Speciality services are also provided in special clinics like Retina (Tuesday) and Glaucoma (Wednesday). All medical and surgical ophthalmic treatment is provided to patients including emergencies.

Department also has its own Eye Bank, collecting and utilizing the donated eyes for corneal transplantation surgery. Eye camps in the periphery are also attended by the doctors contributing to the National Programmes and community medicine. Research work is also carried out to enhance academic activities. Faculty members and residents also attend and participate in local, State and National Ophthalmic conferences to keep pace with the recent developments.

Routine undergraduate teaching is provided by teaching on patients in OPD and by lectures by residents and faculty members in ward on operation days. Post graduate teaching is also provided on OPD and indoor patients and theory by seminars, clinics and case presentations. The residents of this departments named Shrikant , Namrata , Ankit , Bhavesh , Saudhan , Mitali , Vani had won prizes at Academic Competition held among residents at National level.
